"LETTER TO SELF ENTERING HIGH SCHOOL"

Dear 14-year-old Jeremiah,

Congratulations on making it into High School! If you think things are going to get harder from here, you’re right 😊 (sarcasm)Things are only going to get harder, yet enjoyable nonetheless.

In Grade Eight, you encountered and met a lot of cool and awesome people from other schools through the Student Leadership Conference. Did you know that it gets even more crazier? You will meet SOOO many people throughout your high school years, especially in your grade nine year; since everyone your age going into high school will be experiencing what you are going through! I know you are wondering as to whether or not you will meet new friends, keep or lose your current friends, or maybe not have friends entirely. BUT I can ASSURE you, knowing your outgoing personality, you will definitely have quite a big friend group and possibly even meet some friends that may end up becoming life-long friendships. You will have to remember, however, that friends DO come and go, it is up to you to realize who is positively true and developmental to you as a person. High school relationships are always trial and error.

Jeremiah, I know that academics has always been an “iffy” for you as you always doubted yourself with your grades especially in math. But the transitioning period for high school academics can be a very positive experience! … if you make it out to be, of course. Teachers, counsellors, tutorials, and also your friends and classmates will be there to guide you, make sure to acknowledge those resources! They will be very beneficial to your high school transition and help you get used to the workflow of classes!

Getting into extra-curricular activities, sports, and just being involved in school will be something you will absolutely shine in! Knowing you, Jeremiah, you deserve to show-off those talents and skills to people, and to help benefit those around you 😊 I highly suggest you try out for as much sports as you can, such as basketball, volleyball, track, etc. OH and of course… get your way into SRC… it may benefit you in your senior year (Co-President perhaps? 😉 ) So many of the things you do for extra-curricular in high school can help benefit you in your future endeavors regarding resumes, and also spark some new interest for you as well!

All I can really tell you, from 21-year-old Jeremiah to 14-year-old Jeremiah, is to not be scared. Do not be afraid of change, do not be afraid of development, and to always face adversity head on! Push through! Please remember that high school is only 10 PERCENT of your life, make it count 😊 but do not be too hard on yourself, yeah?
